Alea
offers a wide variety of housing options to meet the preferences of
each student. For example, students can choose to live with a Spanish
host family. This arrangement is highly recommended by the
center in the hopes that the student will continue speaking and learning
the language outside of the classroom, in a more relaxed setting.
This constant immersion in the language, combined with the academic
course-work and extracurricular activities enables the student to
take full advantage of the program’s resources.The
host families are carefully selected by Alea to reflect our commitment
to ensuring the comfort and safety of each student.
Another
housing option available to students is for them to share an apartment
with other students. In this case, Alea furnishes students with
a list of apartments and helps to facilitate the search. In order
to guarantee an intensive learning experience, students should make
every effort to live with Spanish speakers and not with speakers of
their native language.
The final
type of lodging offers a greater level of independence and comfort
that some visitors might find appealing. Alea can provide a list of
comfortable hostels, boarding-houses, and hotels in the area,
ranging in price and facilities to accommodate any needs. This option
might be particularly attractive to business people or anyone requiring
the independence afforded by this arrangement, for whatever reasons.
Students
can also choose the meal-plan most suited to their particular
needs. Three plans exist for those who choose to live with host-families,
as follows: breakfast, breakfast and dinner, or full-board. In addition,
Alea will provide students with an extensive list of quality local
restaurants, eateries, and taverns. Some of these establishments offer
small discounts on the daily special to students with Alea identification
cards. This service is made available to all Alea students, regardless
of
the chosen meal-plan they select, including those who opt for full-board
but choose to eat out occasionally.
